Blue Monday: Surviving 'the most depressing day of the year' - Vancouver Sun (blog)

Monday is rarely anyone's favourite day of the week. But apparently this particular Monday, Jan. 17, is widely considered to be much worse than others.

According to an article in Britain's Daily Mail, today is statistically the most depressing day of the year.

"The annual mood-killer, dubbed 'Blue Monday', tends to fall on the third Monday of January as the New Year cheer wears off and the comforting warmth of summer seems like a very distant prospect," the article states.

Dreary, cold rain and gloomy, grey skies combined with the reality of post-Christmas debt, only adds to the problem.

There are ways to survive the day,

A survey commissioned by the charity ActionAid suggests the following three methods to help lift your mood: helping someone in need, receiving a compliment out of the blue and listening to the sound of the sea.

So, to all you feeling blue, hang in there. Tomorrow is a new day.
