Oprah's 'miracle;' Donald Trump is a grandfather; 'Harry Potter' star attacked - Manila Bulletin

Hollywood has all these 'family secrets' spilling out of late. From a television royalty, a multi-million business mogul to a young actress in one of the industry's most lucrative franchises, they experience family highs and lows like everybody else.

The Miracle of O
Oprah Winfrey was recently the subject of many news reports on Jan. 21— from Hollywood Reporter to Reuters, to netizens taking their opinions to their blogs—when she announced that something big was happening on her talk show next week.

Claiming that she would be revealing a "family secret," she said she would be staging a "family reunion" on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Jan. 24. In a promotional clip, Winfrey was quoted to have called her revelation "the miracle of all miracles."

Bloggers who are fans of the show began speculating about the big reveal, with some noting that Winfrey might reveal she had a long lost sibling or would even bring her estranged mother to the show.

But the secret that "literally shook me to the core," as she described, was something she said she had been keeping for months. "I'm the one being reunited," she claimed.

Reports also noted that Winfrey was born to unwed teens, grew up with various relatives and got pregnant by age 14—her baby reportedly dying shortly after. This had some fans also speculating that the reunion might be between her and the child she had that might not have died, like she believed.

At any rate, Winfrey was caught telling Piers Morgan on CNN that she wouldn't be where she is now if she had to raise a baby.

Trump's new grandchild
Donald Trump may be used to firing people—on his show and in real life—but he's got another challenge coming: becoming a grandfather again.

Daugther Ivanka, who is married to Jared Kushner, publisher of The New York Observer, was reported on Jan. 21 to have taken her good news to Twitter. "I have been wanting to share some amazing news with you all for some time… I'm pregnant," she posted.

The couple could not hide their excitement but Hollywood watchers caught the beaming twosome just last Jan. 20 out in New York but noted that she wasn't showing any baby bump just yet—making her due date hard to speculate on.

A hairy encounter
On sadder note, Afshan Azad, the young actress who appeared in "Harry Potter" films as Padma Patil, was reportedly attacked by her own brother, Ashraf. In a court hearing, Azad related fearing for her life in a three-hour ordeal where her brother punched, dragged and strangled her after he found out she had a Hindu boyfriend. Apparently, her brother also threatened to kill her, all for the fact that she was dating a non-Muslim.

Reuters reported that Azad was assaulted at the family home in Manchester. Her parents were also said to be involved in the dispute, and that Azad had reportedly been branded a "slut" and "prostitute." The same report noted that she was told to "Marry a Muslim or you die."

And although Azad had pleased to the court not to jail her brother, he was nevertheless sentenced to prison for six months after he pleaded guilty to the assault.
