Scotland Yard asks News of the World for more information about phone hacking ... - Telegraph.co.uk

He and Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator working for the paper were both found guilty of unlawfully intercepting messages of three members of the Royal Family and five other public figures.

Mr Coulson has consistently denied any knowledge of the pair's illegal actions and insisted that Goodman was the only journalist involved in phone hacking at the paper.

Mr Edmondson's suspension relates to the same police investigation that led to Goodman's conviction.

A document lodged in the High Court links Edmondson to the interception of voicemail messages from the phones of Miller and Jude Law.

In September last year, Miller instructed lawyers to take action against the newspaper after she suspected her phone had been hacked by Mulcaire.

Any confirmation that more staff from the newspaper were involved in illegal activity could jeopardise Mr Coulson's position.

The News of the World suspended Mr Edmondson just before Christmas and is carrying out an internal investigation into the claims against him.

A spokeswoman for the paper said that if the conclusion of an internal investigation into Mr Edmondson or Miller's litigation is that the allegation is proven, "appropriate action will be taken."
