A blockbuster and a box office flop lead the race for Hollywood's Razzies, with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and The Last Airbender each nabbing nine nominations for the movie world dishonour.

Organizers announced the contenders for the 31st edition of the Golden Raspberry Awards on Monday, led by the two mystical tales.

The teen drama Eclipse, the third instalment of the ongoing vampires and werewolves saga, is nominated for worst picture, worst ensemble, worst actress (for star Kristen Stewart) and worst actor (with co-stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner each nominated).

Though fans take the film "totally seriously and they're very vociferous," according to Razzies founder John Wilson, "those of us who are not 'Twi-hards,' we don't get it. I don't actually know any teenage girls who have had to make the choice between a werewolf and a vampire."

The Last Airbender, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan's 3D, live-action film, was maligned by both critics and fans of the popular original cartoon, which followed a young mystical hero destined to unite four warring nations.

Shyamalan's efforts led to a host of Razzie nominations, including for worst picture, worst director, worst screenplay, worst ensemble and — a special new category — worst eye-gouging misuse of 3D.

Rounding out the nominees are the romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter, the TV-inspired sequel Sex and The City 2 and Vampires Suck, a Twilightspoof.

Other contenders include:

  • Worst actor: Jack Black, Gulliver's Travels; Gerard Butler, The Bounty Hunter; Ashton Kutcher, Killers and Valentine's Day; Taylor Lautner, Twilight: Eclipse and Valentine's Day; Robert Pattinson, Remember Me and Twilight: Eclipse.

Several Oscar-winning divas are among the latest worst supporting actress Razzie contenders: Cher ( Burlesque), Liza Minnelli ( Sex and The City 2) and Barbra Streisand ( Little Fockers). Also vying are Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) and Jessica Alba (nominated for The Killer Inside Me, Little Fockers, Machete and Valentine's Day).

Another Cyrus, patriarch Billy Ray, is one of the nominees for the worst supporting actor for his appearance in the film The Spy Next Door. His competition includes George Lopez (Marmaduke, The Spy Next Door and Valentine's Day); Dev Patel (The Last Airbender); Jackson Rathbone (The Last Airbender and Twilight: Eclipse); and Rob Schneider (Grown Ups ).

The 2011 Golden Raspberry Awards will be announced Feb. 26, the eve of the Academy Awards, as per tradition.

Notable winners have included Halle Berry, who in 2005 personally picked up her worst-actress trophy for Catwoman, and Sandra Bullock, who in 2010 was the first person to win a Razzie (worst actress for the flop All About Steve) and an Oscar (best actress for The Blind Side) on the same weekend.
