Friday's Girl - Lynn News (press release)

DESPITE my comments last week about the royal wedding and what a bore it was, I will happily admit that I may have been wrong. It doesn't happen often so make the most of it!

My expectations that the wedding would be a long procession eagerly awaited only by the royalists and the older generation were not entirely accurate.

I flicked on the television last Friday for just a minute, hoping to catch a glimpse of the dress chosen by Kate Middleton, as I'm sure many others did.

I saw the arrival of The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, the crowds lining the streets in anticipation of the event and those gorgeous little pageboys and bridesmaids. I was hooked from that point. I sat and watched the whole thing, including the balcony kisses.

My housemates and I provided a great commentary on the whole thing, discussing the choice of dress, Beatrice's hat and what Harry was really whispering in Will's ear.

My poor boyfriend, who came up for the weekend, spent the morning being sent to the shop to buy things for a fry-up.

Really just a distraction so I didn't have to keep shushing him and pushing him so I could see the TV.

I even turned on my laptop and looked on Facebook to find a full newsfeed of comments about the wedding, from those cheering the couple on to those who were a bit ruder and probably shouldn't be repeated in the paper.

Even the most unlikely people seemed to be watching the wedding, whether it was more in the hope of seeing Kate trip over her dress or even just to see if anyone dared protest to the marriage.

Either way, it was pretty amazing to think that well over two billion people were watching. That must have meant some serious pressure on Kate and Will not to do a Ross from Friends and say the wrong name or to trip down the aisle.

To say your vows in front of so many people must have added so much more pressure than the average wedding. But they handled the pressure like pros and never seemed fazed by how high-profile the wedding actually was.

This is something the world will remember for years to come and in spite of my previous opinions, I'm glad I watched. It really did indulge every fantasy every little girl has when growing up.

Even without a prince, we all like to think we're princesses and now Kate's proved to everyone, as the lovely commentator mentioned, that "even a commoner can marry a prince".

Maybe there's hope for the rest of us, but hands off Harry, ladies!"
