28000 police jobs to go in next four years, Acpo claims - Telegraph.co.uk

Senior police officers are likely to be targeted for the loss of bonuses, which could, in theory, cost individual chief constables tens of thousands of pounds a year each.

However, in reality, not every top officer takes the bonus.

Overall, the police currently employ 244,000 people, of which 143,000 are officers and 101,000 are civilians.
