Blair: PM wrong to say UK is in decline - The Sun

TONY Blair had a swipe at David Cameron yesterday for claiming this month's riots exposed Britain's "sick" society.

The ex-Prime Minister rubbished suggestions the UK is in "moral decline".

Last week PM Mr Cameron blamed the anarchy on a "slow-motion moral collapse", saying parts of society were "sick".

Writing in a Sunday newspaper, Mr Blair said the trouble was caused by a group of disaffected youths who ignore mainstream rules. But it did not mean society as a whole was in crisis.

He said: "Elevate this into a highfalutin wail about a Britain that has lost its way morally and we will depress ourselves unnecessarily, trash our reputation abroad and miss the chance to deal with the problem in the only way that will work."

But one Tory MP said: "These rioters grew up in Blair's Britain."
