A JILTED boyfriend posted a string of Facebook messages begging his ex to take him back hours before he set himself alight, it was revealed yesterday.
Dave Potts, 39, died after turning himself into a fireball which left his former girlfriend Tracy Jones and her three children fighting for life.
He had told friends on the social networking site he was devastated at splitting with typist Tracy, 40, last month.
He said he loved her "with all my heart" and could not understand why she did not feel the same.
Dad-of-two Potts left a grim final post on Facebook at 1am on Monday, saying: "I used to be happy but now I am sad. I used to laugh but now I cry. I used to be someone now I am no one."
Four hours later he turned up at Tracy's home and demanded to talk to her. She let him in but a row broke out, ending when Potts doused himself with petrol and lit it. A blaze then ripped through divorcee Tracy's semi in Broadheath, Greater Manchester.
Potts was rushed to hospital with severe burns but died later.
Last night Tracy and her children Cailin, 18, Shaun, 15, and Zach, four, were still in a critical condition suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
Cailin's friend Clare Moss, 18, called Potts a "mystery man". She said: "Everyone is in shock and hoping the family pull through."
The dead man's mother Christine said: "He was a confused, mixed-up man."
Potts and Tracy had a year-long on-off romance peppered with rows. And the tragedy has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission after it emerged officers answered a string of 999 calls from Tracy's family in the previous month.
