The $4.7 million that News Corp. offered last month to settle its most egregious hacking case has been accepted by the family of murdered teenager Milly Dowler, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Two thirds of the money goes to the Dowler family, and the final third goes to a charity of their choice.
Rupert Murdoch said in a statement that "the behaviour that the News of the World exhibited towards the Dowlers was abhorrent and I hope this donation underscores my regret for the company's role in this awful event."
Meanwhile, the increasingly rebellious News Corp. shareholders are meeting today, and The Guardian is liveblogging it.
