Man arrested after Woking police shooting - BBC News

A man who was shot by police in Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of having an imitation firearm.

Police said an armed unit was sent to Oak Tree Road, Knaphill, on Wednesday amid reports that a man was armed and intended to hurt himself and others.

He was shot at the scene and taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, London where he is in a stable condition.

Another man in his 30s who was arrested at the scene was released without charge and was then rearrested.

The UK Border Agency detained the man on suspicion of immigration offences and he remains in police custody.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said one round was fired by one police officer.

The IPCC said the incident was referred to its investigators in the early hours of Thursday.
