NBC's Gregory labeled 'another elitist hypocrite' in NRA ad - Politico (blog)

The National Rifle Association's controversial new ad focusing on President Barack Obama's daughters also blasts NBC's David Gregory as an "elitist hypocrite."

The "Meet the Press" host makes an appearance in the video when the narrator describes Obama as "just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security." A smiling Gregory pops up on screen below Obama — along with Vice President Joe Biden, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Sen. Dianne Feinstein — in that moment.

"Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, but he's just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security," the narrator says. "Protection for their kids. And gun free zones for ours."

In a statement, NBC News told POLITICO the news organization is against the use of its journalists in political advertisements.

"NBC News firmly objects to the use of our journalists in any political ad," the statement said. "David Gregory's role as moderator of 'Meet the Press' is to ask tough questions of guests representing all sides of the issues."

The "Meet the Press" host made headlines during a Dec. 23 interview with NRA head Wayne LaPierre when he displayed a 30-round magazine as he discussed the role of high-capacity magazines in the Newtown shooting. According to D.C. law, it is illegal to possess a large capacity magazine, even if it is illegal. The District's attorney general on Friday decided not to prosecute Gregory or any NBC staffer for the display.
