Andy Murray turned up the heat on his title rivals by breezing past Jeremy Chardy to book his place in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

The Brit had been upset by being forced to play the Frenchman in the Melbourne afternoon heat again amid claims of favouritism towards No 2 seed Roger Federer, who had been given the prized night-time slot under lights for the fourth successive time to satisfy TV demands.

But Murray kept his cool to dispatch Chardy 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 in just under two hours to set up a showdown with Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
