Video: CCTV footage released of murdered 'gentle giant' Alan Greaves - The Sun

MURDER cops hunting the killer of church organist Alan Greaves yesterday released CCTV images of two men they want to talk to.

The 68-year-old was battered to death as he walked to church for Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.

The two men were caught on cameras a few hundred yards from the scene of the brutal attack in Sheffield.

Detectives admitted they are still baffled as to the motive for the murder and the weapon used to bludgeon Mr Greaves.

Det Supt Matt Fenwick, who is leading the murder hunt, made a direct appeal to the two men to come forward.

He said: "If you are either of these two people shown on the footage then please contact the incident room as soon as you can. If you know or can identify either of these two people please pick up the phone and tell us what you know.

"I am absolutely convinced that someone out there knows what has happened to Alan Greaves. I am absolutely convinced that someone will look at this footage and know who these two people are.

"I want to identify the two males as a matter of urgency because I believe that they can assist significantly with this inquiry. The two males in the CCTV are not anybody that has been previously arrested.

"I am convinced a weapon was used in the attack and I can't comment on what the weapon could be. It could be a multitude of different things. I don't know what the weapon is.

"I still have not established a motive for the attack. Alan retained all his property, nothing was missing and my inquiry remains very open in relation to identifying a possible motive for this attack.

"There is nothing in the victim's history that leads to identify a motive linking to the victim or the victim's family. He had not been involved in any incidents."

A team of 50 investigators have interviewed 300 people and are following up hundreds of leads from members of the public.

A £10,000 reward has been put up by Crimestoppers after the death of the dad of four, who was a lay preacher, school piano teacher and retired social worker.
