A dad and his two young sons were hurt yesterday as they were sent flying by a rally car that ploughed into spectators.

They were airlifted to hospital with leg injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The driver lost control on a bend and crashed into a 200-strong crowd at the Regency Stages Rally in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

A fourth spectator hit by the car was treated at the scene. The unnamed driver was shocked but unhurt.

An eyewitness said: "It was like ten-pin bowling - there were people flying everywhere."

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the incident.
