BRITS could be enjoying the lighter side of life this summer if ministers get their way with a plan to put clocks forward an extra hour.
The proposals for 'British Summer Time + 1' will mean we have an hour longer to enjoy daylight in the summer months, though the sun would rise an hour later in the mornings.
Ministers hope it will boost tourism as visitors can stay out longer - giving the UK economy a 3.5BILLION boost each year.
And road safety campaigners think it will save lives too - though officials in Scotland say darker mornings there will only increase road accidents.
The move would put Britain in line with most of Europe - with clocks two hours ahead of GMT for 'double summertime'.
Conservative MP Rebecca Harris said: "The tourism industry has been crying out for extra daylight saving for years. It could extend the tourist season and boost the economy by up to 3.5billion a year.
"And we would have longer, lighter evenings."
Her Private Member's Bill is going before a Parliamentary committee for debate, having passed its second hurlde in the Commons in December.
Prime Minister David Cameron indicated last year that he was prepared to consider the proposal.
"The argument will be won when people across the country feel comfortable with the change."
