Nokia to launch a Windows 8 tablet in June 2012? - The Seattle Times

The head of Nokia France says the company plans to launch a Windows 8 tablet in summer 2012, Reuters reported, citing an interview that ran in the French Les Echos newspaper.

"In June 2012, we will have a tablet that runs on Windows 8," Paul Amsellem told Les Echos.

A Nokia spokesman, when asked to comment on the report, said: "We have not announced any specific plans as it relates to tablets," Reuters reported.

The June 2012 date is earlier than the dates that have been mentioned in reports about other companies' plans to sell Windows 8 tablets. Microsoft has not yet announced a launch date for Windows 8, which is billed as a radical reinvention of Microsoft's flagship operating system and is optimized to run on both touch-sensitive tablets and desktop and laptop PCs.

Samsung plans to start selling tablets running Windows 8 in the second half of 2012, according to Bloomberg.

Several other PC makers, including Dell and HP, are also reportedly planning to produce Windows 8 tablets by the third quarter of 2012, according to PCWorld.
