Six NATO Troops Killed in Afghanistan
An attack in southern Afghanistan killed six NATO troops Sunday in what was "the latest in a string of incidents that have made the onset of winter ... unusually deadly," writes the Washington Post. Officials did not reveal the nationalities of those killed, although most troops in the area are American. The Associated Press details that the attack involved a minibus packed with explosives that was detonated near the gates of a military base and two Afghan soldiers were also killed. It was the deadliest toll from a single attack on foreign troops since six were shot on Nov. 29. More than 670 NATO troops have been killed this year. The attack came a day after NATO carried out a series of operations that killed at least 40 suspected insurgents and seven civilians.
