Pardew thrilled with success - SkySports

Newcastle United's new manager Alan Pardew has expressed his delight at beginning his reign with a 3-1 win over Liverpool.

Pardew was named Chris Hughton's successor this week, although most United fans were unhappy that their former boss was sacked in the first place.

The former Southampton and West Ham tactician knows he has a hard job on his hands winning over the Magpies faithful as Hughton was hugely popular at St James' Park.

However, Pardew thinks that once the matches get underway that fans will support whoever is in the dugout, stating it is 'everything' for the fans to get behind him.

"They reacted with disappointment about the events this week in losing Chris of course, which is understandable," he said. "He is a gentleman and had done a lot of good work here.

"They support the shirt and they've done that.

"The noise level was only something I've experienced in cup finals if I'm honest. Getting my message was difficult. I might have to get some sign language going."

Effective

The game was all square at one apiece late on after Dirk Kuyt cancelled out Kevin Nolan's first half opener for the home side.

However, The Magpies emerged victorious thanks to let efforts from Joey Barton and new England international Andy Carroll.

"You know to score three goals against Liverpool who are well schooled and well drilled and don't actually give you much room to play, we were effective." He continued.

"We conceded a lot of possession, but we always looked like we had goals in us. To get three goals was something special and I'm really pleased."
