Obsessed: Frank Tufaro flew to the UK especially to propose to Kate Bush
An obsessed Kate Bush fan has been deported from Britain after breaking into her home in an attempt to propose to her.
Frank Tufaro, an American, was carrying a 3,000 diamond, sapphire and gold ring bought at Tiffany's when he arrived at the countryside home of the reclusive singer and songwriter.
When Tufaro realised Miss Bush, who was nominated for a Brit Award this week, was not at home, he broke a window and let himself in.
Minutes later the unemployed artist panicked and fled by climbing over several fences to get into a nearby property.
Neighbours called police and minutes later a team of officers, supported by a helicopter unit, arrested 32-year-old Tufaro as he dragged his suitcase along a country lane.
He was detained under the Mental Health Act before being deported by four UK Border Agency officials who accompanied him to John F Kennedy airport in New York and handed him over to the FBI.
Tufaro has been obsessed with Miss Bush since his teenage years when he saw her in a TV advert.
At his home in Manhattan last night, he said: 'I feel so connected to her. I feel so much love for her and I want to protect her.'
A source yesterday revealed that weeks before breaking into the home of the Wuthering Heights singer, Tufaro had sent Miss Bush, 53, a string of emails proclaiming his love for her.
The source said: 'He said that he wanted to propose marriage to her, that she had been sending him regular emails and was expecting him at her home.'
On Boxing Day Tufaro flew from London to Exeter before making his way to the singer's isolated 2.5million bolthole in Devon.

He spent 240 on a taxi and directed the driver with satellite co-ordinates he had downloaded from the internet and cross-referenced with maps.
Tufaro said being inside Miss Bush's property 'didn't feel real and felt like a set-up'.
He added: 'I was inside for about eight minutes before I realised I had to leave. I just walked around and looked at everything. It wasn't what I expected.'
He said that when he had arrived at the property he knocked, but no one was in. He added: 'It was freezing cold, it was dark and I felt like I had nowhere to go.
'I didn't have a clue where I was and was convinced I was going to die there, it was so bitter and cold.
Determined: On Boxing Day, Tufaro flew from London to Exeter before making his way to the singer's isolated 2.5million bolthole in Devon
'I've never broken the law in my life and decided to break a window pane and let myself in so I wouldn't freeze to death.'
Tufaro had bought the diamond, sapphire and gold promise ring at Tiffany's in Manhattan a few days before Christmas.
He flew to Heathrow before checking in to the ultra-modern boutique W Hotel in London's Leicester Square, where the best suites cost up to 6,000 a night.
During his stay Tufaro recorded a video as he danced around his luxury room in a tracksuit while singing along to hip-hop songs.
At one point he unlocked a safe to reveal the gift-wrapped ring as he shouted: 'Boom! Badda! That's how I roll.'
Secluded: The singer's home, which is isolated on top of a 100-foot cliff, was built in the 1920s and is set in 17 acres of land
Miss Bush, who is married with a 13-year-old son, has remained a recluse for much of her life, spending the majority of her time at her fortress-like mansion in Berkshire.
She used some of the vast fortune she has earned from selling more than 10million records to purchase the Devon property several years ago as a private getaway.
It enjoys its own beach accessible by steeply winding steps and locals say it is almost impossible to approach without being seen.
On Thursday it was announced that the singer had been nominated in the best British female solo artist category in the Brit Awards, a title she has won three times, in 1979, 1980 and 1987.
Miss Bush's estate, which has access to a private pebble beach with a boat house, includes two small islands
Last year she released two albums Director's Cut, an amalgamation and re-working of some of the songs from two of her previous albums, and 50 Words For Snow, which features new songs.
Her first single Wuthering Heights went to No 1 in February 1978 when she was still a teenager. Her other hits include The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Babooshka and Running Up That Hill.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that a man had been arrested and subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.
The UK Border Agency said: 'A 32-year-old man was removed from the UK to the United States on January 6. The incident which led to his arrest is purely a police matter.'
"The problem is because people haven't seen Kate bush since 1979, or an up to date photo of her since the '70's, people still imagine she looks the same as in the picture above. In their mind that is still ' Kate Bush of Wuthering Heights'.The truth is she would be in her 60's now' and has most likely changed considerably. Beautiful house though; could be Wuthering Heights itself. - Libby, Bedford, 14/1/2012 8:11"=========How can you get so many things wrong in one post? Kate has appeared in many events since the 70's, usually for charity, has made many videos right up until the two albums she released this year. A quick search on youtube will find you thousands. Kate is 53 and still a beautiful woman, alright she's not as beautiful as she was at her peak in her 30's (see video for Sensual World), but who is? Why don't you read her Wikipedia entry and educate yourself, instead of posting rubbish?
