It was fashion to die for at the Hunger Games premiere Monday.
All eyes were on Jennifer Lawrence, who stars as Katniss Everdeen in this fight-to-the-death trilogy. Lawrence stole the show in a gold Prabal Gurung fall 2012 gown. The dress, first seen last month during New York fashion week, was as fierce as her character with triangle cutouts at the rib cage and an open T-shaped back.
Gurung is no stranger to dressing high-profile women, with past pieces seen on the likes of Michelle Obama and Zoe Saldana. But this was still a big get for the young designer, who showed his first collection just three years ago.
Within minutes of pictures hitting Twitter Monday night, Gurung tweeted: BEYOND I M speechless. He later added, Beyond ecstatic.
Given that we will likely see Lawrence on many more red carpets (for as-yet-to-be-made Hunger Games two and three, we hope!) Heard on the Runway would like to offer a little constructive criticism. The black belt Gurung used on the catwalk would have been nice to break up all that the gold lam (see the look, below). And we could do without the shaggy bangs.
Other style standouts from the premiere included Elizabeth Banks, who plays the eccentric Effie Trinket. Banks wore a one-shoulder bright orange mini from Atelier Versaces Spring 2012 collection. The super sweet Amandla Stenberg, who plays Rue, wore mint green tea-length dress by Australian designer Collette Dinnigan.
Another star who caught our eye wasdare we say it?Miley Cyrus in a two-piece black Pucci ensemble. Cyrus arrived on the arm of her long-time beau, Liam Hemsworth, who plays Gale, one of the two leading men.
Here's the dress Jennifer Lawrence wore last night, seen on the runway Prabal Gurung's New York fashion week Fall/Winter show.
