Jessie J: The Voice judge admitted she didn't watch the show

It was launched amid great fanfare and briefly managed to beat ITV rival Britain's Got Talent in the ratings war.

But following a huge slump in audience figures, BBC bosses have admitted the next series of singing competition The Voice will undergo a huge overhaul.

None of the four celebrity coaches – Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, Will.i.am and Danny O'Donoghue – has yet signed up for it, and the Daily Mail has been told their contracts include only an option to return for a second series.

Ratings dipped to below 6million on Saturday night's live show as the BGT final peaked at 14.5million. An average of 5.9million, with a peak of 6.4million, tuned in. The peak for Sunday's results show was 6.5million, a far cry from the ratings high of 11million on April 21.

Last night a show source said: 'This series has been a test run, as it were. It is a matter of seeing what has worked and what hasn't.

'There will be changes – it definitely won't be the same. Obviously, there were issues like the pre-recorded results show, which seemed to take away the drama of the series, so don't be surprised if there is a live results show next year.

'As for the coaches, they have only signed an option to appear on series two next year. This works both ways, though: If we don't want them back, we don't have to have them back. At the moment, we don't know who will be back next year.'

Jessie J has admitted she does not watch the show, and last week told a magazine she regretted being the first celebrity to announce their decision to appear on The Voice, saying: 'When Tom Jones said he waited until he knew the line-up, I thought I should have, too.'

Coming back? Will.i.am (left) and Sir Tom Jones (right) have not yet signed up for a second series, nor have their fellow judges Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that an average of 11.9 million people watched the final of Britain's Got Talent - more than double 5.64 million that watched The Voice.

ITV have announced that the final was the most-watched programme of 2012 so far, beating the 11.2 million who tuned in to watch an episode of Coronation Street back in January.

The reason I switched off was nothing to do with the judges, it was because I'm sick to death of seeing Holly every time I turn the tv over. Her voice and personality grate on my nerves. Get some new fresh face presenting and we might watch

I'm sorry, I love it all!!!!! Especially Will.I.am!!!!!!

Will.i.am is just such a decent, genuine guy and brings a touch of class to a dire programme really. I only watch it because of his input.

Get rid of Danny and Jessie - both are awful!!!!

The best thing the BBC can do is take it off the air for good. The first two weeks were very, very good. After that it just failed in such a big way. As for Jessie , she's nothing but a massive show off. Get rid of the program full stop.

Since the result show is recorded there is no point to watch it, BBC need to do a live results show instead.

I think the BBC is going down the pan and fast especially now it has moved to Salford, it seems to struggle to get celebs to appear on it's show's, and it's programme content is real poor considering what we pay for it.

This is ridiculous! The BBC needs to get its act together. 11M pi**ed against a wall on a pointless, ill advised remake of the Titanic. (ohh - look - it's written by that Downton bloke over on ITV so it follows that anything he writes will be a hit!) Couldn't agree more with Eva from Cheshire - how about some innovation and fresh creative ideas instead of copying (and not very well) other channels. Some great dramas for example - something the Beeb was once justly renowned for, might be a start. Go back to your roots! Incidentally, I think it was a shame that the new Upstairs Downstairs was cancelled. It took a while to get going but the scripts and acting in the last series was superlative.

I really enjoyed the first couple of programmes but now I record it and fast forward through it to cut out - Holly's 'well done you's' and all the silly arm waving and dancing from the coaches, it's all a bit uncomfortable to watch!

I actually like the coach line up, I think they have a great dynamic. It's the BBC's poor editing that lets the show down, how gullible do they think people are, everyone knows it is not live. Holly messes up her words every week and Reggie has twice let it slip by saying 'you were great tonight' after everyone else claiming it was 'last night'. Once that is sorted it could be great. If Jessie J isn't a coach next year though I won't be watching it anyway.
