Police in London, England, have been given a further 24 hours to question a Canadian mother held on "suspicion of murder" after her two young children were found dead in the family's South London home Wednesday.
London Metropolitan police detectives now have until Saturday morning to lay charges, release her or ask for more time.
The British press is reporting that police are probing whether Felicia Boots, 34, may have been suffering from postpartum depression. She was reportedly led out of the house by police with cuts to her wrist.
Her husband, Canadian investment banker Jeffrey Boots, discovered the bodies of his two children when he returned home from work Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail. Neighbours said they heard him wailing"Oh my God, oh my God," after he entered the family home.
London police said they were called to a house in South London around 7:30 p.m. There were attempts to revive a 10-week-old boy and 14-month-old girl, but both children were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the couple who have lived in London for several years moved weeks ago into a $2-million semi-detached home in Wandsworth, a southern borough popular with young families.
Felicia Boots was a hair stylist in both Canada and London, but recently started a jewelry company.
A testimonial on her website by Toronto sommelier Lisa Fenn called Felicia Boots "fearless" with "great spirit and a real magnetism."
The Telegraph reports the woman was escorted into a police car without handcuffs two hours after police arrived. Forensic investigators took multiple bags of evidence, including children's clothing and an Apple computer box.
According to the London Evening Standard, police are investigating the possibility of postpartum depression. Autopsies are scheduled for Friday morning and no other suspects are being sought.
