Toddler falls to his death 'under grandmother's moving car' - Telegraph.co.uk

"We have taken the cards and toys to put in his box again."

Avon and Somerset Police closed the scene of the accident, at Hollway Road, near the city's The Concorde pub, following the incident at 3pm last Friday.

Eyewitnesses described the "horrific accident", with one woman saying: "It was just a nightmare. We heard screaming and saw one woman with blood all over her.

"We didn't see Levi at first but when we did it was awful - we still get nightmares about it.

"He was covered in blood and just lying there lifeless. One woman was trying to resuscitate him really frantically and get his heart started again.

"The kid wasn't moving, crying or anything, it was horrible. The driver had to be led off to the pub because she just couldn't move."

Great Western Ambulance Service sent paramedics and an air ambulance to the scene after reports that a child had been struck by a car.

A spokesman said: "He was unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to hospital by road ambulance but unfortunately died later."

One friend, who knew Levi but did not want to be named, posted online: "He was in a child seat but managed to release himself.

"Grandma realised this and was in the process of stopping - but before she could a tragic accident occurred."

Flowers, teddie bears and cards - some drawn by children - carrying poignant tributes to Levi were left at the scene yesterday by shocked mourners.

The toddler, aged 26 months, is believed to have an older sister and a step-brother.

One tribute said: "Never forget you, your always be remembered, love you loads. Love Shirie, Ashlee, Charley and Casey."

Another read: "Levi, may your star shine bright for all to see, with love always."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said investigations surrounding the accident were ongoing and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the Hollway Road area at the time of the incident to contact the force's collision investigation unit on 101."
