She managed to annoy her camp mates yet again on Saturday night's I'm A Celebrity after bottling another Bushtucker Trial.

But Helen Flanagan's parents are adamant that the public are seeing the wrong side of their daughter and have begged them to stop torturing her.

After witnessing the Twitter abuse that the 22-year-old has faced and the public backlash that has seen her face five trials, the star's mum and dad are worried that she's not coping.

And her grandfather Joe Flanigan has waded into the row, saying: 'She's never really been in the garden, so taking on the Australian jungle is a huge challenge for her.'

'We don't think people are getting the right impression of Helen. The tasks are taking their toll on her,' her mum Julia told the Sunday Mirror.

The former Corrie actress's parents admitted that they had warned Helen not to go into the jungle as she has a hard time coping with being alone in the dark.

'I was really worried about her going in there because it's not the nicest of environments at all. I tried to persuade her not to go, even the week before I said 'Helen you don't have to do this you know,'' Julia continued.

'She's scared of the dark and even now she has to have Harry Potter playing in the background when she goes to bed at night. It's a comfort blanket for her. She's also scared of spiders and heights,' she added.

Helen, who has been voted to undertake the arduous Bushtucker Trials five times in just seven days, didn't even attempt Saturday night's Rodent Run.

Despite having eleven hungry mouths to feed back at camp, the actress bottled out of the task before she had even began.

'I'm not feeling this. It's my fifth trial and I'm really annoyed. I'm not happy. There comes a point where I have to say, 'I can't do this,'' she said when she got to the trial area.

'I'm not a quitter, but I've had enough. I'm not doing any more. I've absolutely had enough of trials. My mind's gone,' she continued.

Helen's grandfather has also spoken out about his worry for his granddaughter.

'Our Helen is a lovely girl, but she lives in cloud cuckoo land. She walks around with her head in the clouds. I thought, 'she'll never make it, she's not safe to cross the road,'' Joe Flanigan told the Sunday People.

'She's never really been in the garden, so taking on the Australian jungle is a huge challenge for her,' he continued.

Joe also berated the public for continually voting for her to do the trials:

'They need to realise what little experience Helen has of the world. She's had a funny childhood, she's been pampered and looked after her whole life. I know it's entertaining to watch but it's a bit cruel.' he said.

She's a volunteer! !!!

Best thing for us to do would be to stop voting for her to do the trials, so we can enjoy watching them, but keep her in camp so she doesn't get to enjoy the hotel, she does not deserve it, and then vote her out just before we're down to the last three. By the way Rosemary and Limhal should think shame on themselves letting her go to the jungle pub last night, Linda deserved it far, far more.

I blame the parents! That is my opinion and I am sticking to it.

I think the family should be feeling some shame on their part for allowing her to become so encapsulated that the poor girl cannot seem to cope with the simplest tasks! Five year olds try harder than this air head.

To be perfectly honest, I rather blame her Family for pampering her so much that she cannot stand on her own two feet, and then to send her out ill equipped to face this world is just irresponsible. I would also blame the organisers of this show, as they must take much of the blame for even considering her in the first place (Just think back to her on coronation Street)

She's simple, vacuous & utterly pathetic. Is she 2 or 22 FGS!

Spoilt little daddy's girl....yuk!

Thick as two planks

I've always thought that it is the duty of a parent to put the time into helping your children to become as independent as possible. Yes, I have children; yes, they are streetwise; yes, they think of other people; yes, they are conscientious; yes, they are quite successful; yes, they are a pleasure to be around. It is not being a good parent to completely spoil, pamper and indulge your child. Those sort of offspring are the sort that just become a burden on society and/or cannot deal with real life. What use to the world, or him or herself, is a spoilt, immature adult who is so shallow that they only think of themselves and so attention-seeking that they make huge mountains out of minute molehills. Why oh why didn't these parents (and grandparents) do more to bring up a more rounded individual who would could see beyond her own self-interests. Still needing the comfort blanket of Harry Potter music at night . What were Mr and Mrs Flanagan thinking? Good Grief!!!!!
