He is no stranger to controversy.
And it looks like outspoken X Factor judge Louis Walsh could have landed himself in hot water again after taking a catty swipe at former judge and protege Cheryl Cole.
The Irishman seemed to suggest the Girls Aloud and solo pop star owed her success to the fact she married a famous footballer during an interview with the Guardian.
The better singer?Nadine Coyle and Cheryl Cole live on stage during BBC Children In Need. Walsh said Coyle was a 'miles better singer' and 'could have been famous if she had married a footballer'
Girls night out: The band have recently been out in force to prove that they've put any differences they had aside
In it he said Nadine Coyle was the best singer by 'a mile' and added: 'But she didn't marry a footballer. If she'd married a footballer she'd have been a big star.'
But Walsh had nothing but praise for his current X Factor co star, Tulisa. Despite once labeling her a 'chav in a tracksuit' saying she was hard working and honest and that they bonded 'from day one'.
Asked who he would less like to meet down a dark alley, self styled tough girl Tulisa or Cheryl, he replied 'Oh Cheryl.'
He summed up his opinion of his former colleague by saying: 'Cheryl is all about Cheryl.'
Walsh has never been shy about saying what he really thinks about his fellow celebrities and co stars.
'What did you just call me?' Louis Walsh brands Tulisa a WAG on X Factor after he tries to give her a compliment
Still friends: The two laughed off the little spat, but not before Tulisa set the record straight. Walsh is said to 'adore' Tulisa
When Danni Mingoue joined the show in 2009 he admitted he had repeatedly ribbed her for not having as 'many hits as her sister' and he said he had much preferred working with boy bands than with girls because they were 'too needy'.
Despite what could have been a rocky start to his relationship with Tulisa Contostavlos, after he famously called her a chav, the pair are said now to 'adore' each other.
But that did not stop the mischievous Irishman take a dig at his fellow mentor for her new relationship with football star Danny Simpson .
Giving the judge a compliment on her song choice for her act Ella Henderson, Louis also called the N Dubz singer out on her new status as a WAG.
He said: 'And you, Mrs WAG! You picked a great song for her.'
Tulisa immediately responded, asking the boy band mentor to repeat what he'd just said, after which he called her the term one more time.
'Excuse me? You mean I'm a WAF!' she retaliated, explaining: 'It means: "Was Already Famous".'
