The PlayStation 4 has seemingly managed to win the hearts and souls of hardcore gamers, a not so little known fact that Sony's fully aware of. Hence why they're mighty confident these days. Some might say a bit too confident.
Sony Computer Entertainment big boss Andrew House stated the following near the end of his company's Gamescom presser:
"While others have shifted their message and changed their story, we were consistent in maintaining a message that is fair and in tune with consumer desires."
And it's true, Microsoft has continually said one thing, only to change it another. Xbox One features that were designed to delight gamers have led to the total opposite, hence the constant reversals. But is that necessarily a bad thing?
Not MS. In an interview with Eurogamer, Microsoft Studios head honcho Phil Spencer states:
"The thing I love about the space we're in is you're always going to get feedback, whether it's on your Twitter feed, whether it's in NeoGAF, whether it's in Eurogamer. People are going to tell you in comment threads how they feel about decisions.
The two-way conversation we have with our customers is a strength. Certain people have tried to turn that into something that's a bad thing about what we're trying to do, and I just disagree.
The two-way conversation that we have with gamers is critical. If we weren't able to listen then I don't think we're really creating the ecosystem that means people want to come into the platform."
Some feel that credit should be given where credit is due, and that MS should be applauded for listening to their customers. That's what a good company does, correct?
At the same time, many are quick to point out that many of those ill fated decisions, like always having to be connected to the internet, not allowing the One to operate without a Kinect plugged in, and trying to change the very definition of used games, should have never been enacted in the first place.
