A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 44-year-old man was shot dead in Greater Manchester.

Ian Taylor

Mr Taylor's sisters describe him as a 'friendly character'

Ian Taylor was shot in Wythenshawe, in the south of the city on Monday night.

He had been sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car on Floatshall Road in Baguley when shots were fired into the vehicle.

Mr Taylor was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Police said a 32-year-old man had been arrested and was being questioned.

Ian's four sisters have paid tribute to him: "Ian was a man born and brought up in Wythenshawe and was well-liked within the community. He was such a friendly character.

"He was a family man who in the past had had his problems, but he had worked hard to overcome them.

"We are completely devastated at losing Ian in such tragic circumstances and we would urge anyone who knows anything about who killed Ian to call the police."

Police tried to reassure members of the local community after the shooting, saying it was understandable there would be "a great deal of concern".

Chief Superintendent Rob Potts said: "At this stage, we do not believe there is any risk to residents and it is being treated as an isolated incident."

Extra police officers will be patrolling the area in the coming days, he added.
