DISGRACED former Labour MP David Chaytor, who made £22,000 in false expenses claims, has lost his appeal to get out of jail early.

The 61-year-old was sentenced in January to 18?months for forging tenancy documents and invoices. But he argued a 12-month sentence was appropriate.

Rejecting his plea, the Court of Appeal's Lord Judge told Chaytor, from Todmorden, West Yorkshire: "This was a grave breach of trust."

He added: "He publicly admitted his dishonesty. His humiliation is complete."
