"This is a tragic case. A lovely young woman, with a promising future ahead of her, has been robbed of her life.
"Her death will have, and doubtless continues to have, a devastating effect on her family and Greg.
"You must not allow emotion or sympathy for Joanna and her family and for Greg to cloud your judgment."
Mr Justice Field summed up the evidence in the case reminding jurors that Tabak had admitted killing Miss Yeates in her flat on December 17 last year.
He explained that the most significant evidence had come from the defendant himself and the two pathologists who came to court, Dr Russell Delaney and Dr Nat Cary.
The judge also warned the jury not to try Tabak on his behaviour after he killed Miss Yeates.
He told them Tabak had admitted lying to police but added: "You must not assume because he lied he must be guilty."
The defendant denies murder but admits manslaughter.
