The James Randi Educational Foundation, which works to educate people about the common tricks and sleight-of-hand techniques that swindlers who purport to be psychics or some other contact with a supernatural world. Since 1964, the Foundation has offered a $1 million prize to anyone who can, under observable laboratory conditions, demonstrate psychic or other paranormal ability.
To date, the prize has not been claimed.
Earlier this summer, JREF challenged James van Praagh, who claims to be able to talk to the dead, to prove his abilities in their challenge, with the promise of the reward money if he could. Van Praagh's representatives have not responded to the challenge. And so, recently, members of JREF tried to approach him dressed as zombies, on the theory that van Praagh would talk to them if they were dead.
Alas, it was not to be. Van Praagh's representatives first promised to get someone to talk with them. But then it appears that they called security to eject them. Thus, van Praagh's claims to be able to talk to the dead remain unproven.
