In the last of the Reality Bites strand, Charlie Bird meets with Padraic Nally, the farmer who took the law into his own hands and killed an intruder on his land. Charlie talks to the 61-year-old Mayo native, to get to know the man behind the headlines. In a case which the judge described as 'the most socially divisive trial in modern Irish legal history', Nally shot an intruder, John Ward, on his farm in 2004, whom he claimed had been terrorising him for months. Nally was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to six years; however, 11 months later his conviction was quashed and he was released. Bird examines the role the media played at the time and how the case revealed the prejudice that exists in Irish society; asking if the new 'Nally law' will protect people in their homes in the future.
