The Canadian Press digs into why Katie Holmes may have left her husband Tom Cruise, and why they are now in divorce proceedings that they are trying to keep quiet.
CP gossip columnist Catherine Benzie combs the tabloids and finds that Scientology may have played a key role in breaking up the prominent Hollywood couple. Holmes was apparently devoted to L. Ron Hubbard's teachings at the beginning, but she later distanced herself from the doctrine, diminishing her attendance at Scientology classes from three times a week to none.
Holmes's parents apparently missed the happy old Katie that we remember from Dawson's Creek and she allegedly didn't have many friends beyond her husband, her lovely daughter Suri and Cruise's inner circle.
Meanwhile, New York's Village Voice reports that Holmes may have been saving her daughter from an intense practice known as "auditing," which involves interrogating members as young as six years old using an e-meter and asking questions such as "Have you ever picked on someone smaller than yourself?" "Have you ever let your team, or school, or club down?" "Have you ever done something to someone you'd hate to have done to you?"
We don't know precisely what has broken up this couple, but suffice to say the media has already concluded that Scientology had a great deal to do with it.
