Madison's family had taken considerable precautions to prevent the party getting out of hand including hiring security staff.
"The party was very well organised, we had a marquee in the back garden. There were about 100 guests and they all had wristbands with someone checking them on the door," said Madison's father Cornelius, 47, a local government officer.
"We didn't have any alcohol, they were all just having a good time dancing.
"Everybody left the party at 12.30am and after that I don't know what happened.
"I did my best to look after everybody at the party, but this didn't happen until afterwards and it happened in the next street.
"The first we knew of it was the next day when we saw the police had cordoned off an area up the road from our house and then we saw on Facebook what had happened to George.
"We were just in shock. My daughter was inconsolable. We just can't believe what has happened.
"My thoughts are with George's family at the moment. I haven't spoken to his parents, I don't want to intrude.
"Madison is devastated, she doesn't want another birthday ever again. She told me that now when she has a birthday all she is going to think of is George."
Neighbours also spoke of trouble erupting after what had been a well-planned party.
Angela Beatty who lives opposite the house where the party was held, said: "We all knew the party was going to happen and we were all given flyers. It was extremely well organised and there were bouncers.
"It started at eight and was over by 12.30, as they said it would be.
"Then it all came to a crescendo after 12.30.
"I was in bed reading and I just peeked out of the window when I heard the shouting."
"It was just a melee."
She estimated the number of people being involved in the brawl at around 150, a far higher figure than given by the police.
"It was like a pack mentality. I'm sure they're all nice individually, but together it was just horrible.
"They can't all have come from the party because there were too many of them. But these days, with Facebook, it's so easy to find out that something like this is happening.
"It was just awful. It's so sad and you never expect something like this to happen."
She added: "My daughter said to me last night, I didn't have a party like that when I turned 16, but then the following morning she said she was glad she hasn't."
Friends of the dead teenager turned to the social media to voice their horror and pay tribute to him
Pete Mouncer wrote: "So upset awesome kid to go so young. One of the best George xx".
Another, Heather Baber, commenting on a picture of herself and George, wrote: I would do anything to go back to this moment, love you George X."
Scotland Yard said a 17-year old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned at a south London police station.
