Kenya: Interpol issues warrant for Briton Samantha Lewthwaite - euronews

Interpol has issued a wanted person's alert for British woman Samantha Lewthwaite – in the wake of the massacre at a shopping centre in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The move has raised suspicions that Lewthwaite, the widow of 7/7 bomber Jermaine Lindsey, could have been involved in the armed assault on the Westgate mall.

Somali Islamist group Al Shabaab, which is linked to al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for attack, in which at least 72 people were killed.

Some survivors have described a pale-skinned woman among the militants.

Earlier this week, Kenya's Foreign Minister said a British woman had taken part – but President Uhuru Kenyatta stressed that this had not been confirmed.

Lewthwaite, known as the "white widow", has been wanted by Kenyan authorities for two years in connection to a separate terror plot.

The Interpol alert for Lewthwaite specifies possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony dating back to 2011 – and does not mention the Westgate attack.
