Cole: I'm winning Cheryl back - The Sun

LOVE cheat Ashley Cole was last night bragging he WILL win back his ex-wife Cheryl after wooing her during a night spent together at their old home.

Pals said dumped X Factor star Cheryl, 27, is considering starting again with the soccer ace - who broke her heart with a string of affairs. He is boasting it was a "done deal".

And Cheryl is now wondering if they could still have a future together - despite their marriage having been wrecked by the soccer star's affairs.

She has put her showbiz career on hold as she "seriously considers" starting again with the Chelsea and England defender.

Girls Aloud singer Cheryl may even decide to leave Britain FOR GOOD with Ashley, 30, after he retires from footie.

Ashley, who moved alone back into their 12-bedroom ex-marital home in Godalming, Surrey, in December, has been bombarding Cheryl, 27, with emotional phone calls and texts. And she has admitted to feelings for the man who broke her heart.

Cheryl was devastated when she quit the UK X Factor to be a judge on the US version, only to be dumped from it.

She was then secretly smuggled into her former marital home nearly two weeks ago. The couple did not have sex - but spent hours chatting about old times.

A friend said: "Ashley gave a lost and hurt woman, whom he still loves, a place to lay her head. It reminded her of a happier time.

"It was masochistic of her and clever of him. He'd do anything to woo her back.

"Her PR team insist it is platonic but they are very worried."

A family friend of Cheryl said the X Factor disaster had left her open to Cole's advances.

The pal added: "None of this would have happened if she hadn't lost the X Factor gig.

"She has gone from being incredibly busy to having time on her hands. She has been thinking a lot and was feeling extremely vulnerable when she went to Ashley's."

But The Sun can reveal that Cheryl letting Ashley back into her life was what first sparked a rift with Simon Cowell.

The furious X Factor boss told her a reunion with the love-rat would destroy her career.

Pals said Cheryl spun a web of deceit, lying to her agent, Cowell and even her mother about the developing relationship.

One said: "For months those closest to Cheryl have pleaded with her not to start seeing Ashley again. She promised them the relationship was over. But it was a lie, she still has feelings for him. And from her point of view, he was there for her when everyone else, even Simon, seemed to turn their back. She was meant to be concentrating on the American X Factor. Simon warned her not to be seduced by 'Happy ever after' words from Ashley.

"He said the Americans would drop her like a hot brick if she allowed such a cheat back into her life. But she didn't listen."

After their night together, Ashley changed his Blackberry Messenger status to 'I Only Love You'. Next day he flew to LA. But before boarding he declared his love in an emotional phone call to Cheryl. He told her: "I love you. Don't worry. We'll be together soon."

A fellow passenger who heard his vow said: "He was being so soppy, telling her how much he loved her, over and over. It was sickly sweet. He didn't want to put the phone down."

In LA Ashley has spent hours telling pals he would win back his ex. During a dinner pals said he was "completely pre-occupied" with Cheryl. One close friend recalled: "Whenever Ashley mentions her he gets very emotional. He describes her as his only love, his soulmate and his heartbeat. He's like a lovesick puppy. No matter how many slappers he sleeps with, he can't get Cheryl out of his head."

A friend said: "Ashley has got his claws in and Cheryl is seriously considering if they have a future.

"She knows the British public wouldn't accept a reunion. She has to decide between a career here or love abroad. He'll only be playing a few more years and suggested living abroad and starting a family. It's tearing her apart." Cheryl has not been seen in public since Cowell dumped her from the US X factor five weeks ago.

Cheryl's spokesman refused to comment last night on reports she is being wooed by Ashley.

Ashley - revealed by The Sun in 2008 to have claimed "Cheryl doesn't mind" during a one-night stand with crimper Aimee Walton - has been partying with beauties while in LA.

Meanwhile Cowell's mum Julie, 86, insisted Cheryl unfairly blamed him for her X Factor sacking. She said: "I think Cheryl does blame Simon unfairly for what has happened.

"I think she got very excited about everything that was going to happen in America, as anyone would do.

"For some reason, the Americans didn't want her. There wasn't anything Simon could do about that.

"It isn't Simon's fault. But I think she had built it up and is now very disappointed."
