A CARE home, exposed by Panorama for its alleged mistreatment of vulnerable patients, is set to close.

Castlebeck, the owner of Westbourne View, revealed last night that the 24-bed unit will shut on Friday, with patients transferred.

An investigation into the home near Bristol by the BBC show showed disabled adults being slapped, kicked, sat on and drenched with water.

Police have arrested and bailed 11 members of staff – eight men and three women – since the exposé was broadcast last month.

A whistleblower repeatedly went to authorities to voice concerns and Castlebeck is now investigating its procedures and reviewing the records of all 580 patients in its 56 facilities.

The firm, which has an annual turnover of £90million, apologised following the Panorama broadcast.

The Bristol facility charges taxpayers an average £3,500 a bed per week.
