Ex-detective held in murder probe - The Press Association

A former detective is being questioned in connection with the murder of a policewoman whose body was found in woodland.

The victim, in her 30s, was discovered dead in Blackdown Woods near Lurgashall, West Sussex, by officers from Surrey Police.

They were called to an address in West Street, Haslemere, Surrey, on Sunday night after fears were raised for the woman's safety.

Forensic officers were scouring an area of the woodland on Monday and the house in Haslemere also remained cordoned off.

The woman has not yet been formally identified and officers have not said what her relationship was to the detained man.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place later at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, police said.

The 35-year-old man from Haslemere has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
