Jack Rodwell was sent off for a challenge on Suárez in the 23rd minute to leave the hosts playing with 10 men at Goodison Park.
Everton did well to hold its rival during a bruising contest. Everton's American goalkeeper Tim Howard dived low to his left to save Dirk Kuyt's penalty right before the halftime.
"We were very professional," Liverpool Manager Kenny Dalglish said. "When you play against 10 it's easy to lose your concentration and be complacent and we didn't do either.
"Everyone played very well, Andy's off the mark with a league goal, and although Dirk missed a penalty it did not affect him and that's great credit to him. It was a good result for us."
Liverpool broke through in the 71st minute when José Enrique found Andy Carroll inside the box for the opening goal.
Suárez, a striker from Uruguay, ensured Liverpool's second straight league victory with eight minutes remaining after an Everton defensive mix-up left Suárez alone with only Howard to beat.
FÀBREGAS OUT; INIESTA RETURNS Barcelona said it will be without midfielder Cesc Fàbregas for three weeks because of an injury, but also announced that midfielder Andrés Iniesta had returned to training for the first time since sustaining a leg injury more than two weeks ago.
The club said that Fàbregas hurt a muscle in his right thigh during training Saturday.
Fàbregas, a Spaniard, is the latest Barcelona player to succumb to injury, in addition to Iniesta and forward Alexis Sánchez.
Iniesta trained with Barcelona on Friday but is unlikely to return for Sunday's league match at Sporting Gijón.
Fàbregas has been an integral player in Coach Pep Guardiola's team since joining from Arsenal in August, helping the club to a victory in the Spanish Supercup in his debut match. Fàbregas, 24, has scored four goals in seven appearances and has played particularly well with Lionel Messi.
Iniesta, 27, injured a muscle in his left thigh during a 2-2 Champions League draw with Milan on Sept. 13. At the time, it was expected he would be out for one month.
Defender Carles Puyol trained apart from the team after picking up a knock in Wednesday's 5-0 Champions League victory at BATE Borisov in Belarus.
Barcelona remains without the injured Sánchez and midfielder Ibrahim Affelay, who is scheduled to have knee surgery on Monday.
ARSENAL'S EARNINGS DECLINE Arsenal reported pretax profits of $23 million in its fiscal year that ended May 31 as reduced gains from player and property sales led to a drop in the Premier League club's earnings.
Arsenal released the numbers Friday, revealing a drop from the record $87 million profit in 2010 as it failed to generate much revenue in player sales, with Eduardo's transfer to Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine the lone standout fee of last season.
The biggest drop was in the club's property segment, as it generated only $47.3 million from Highbury land sales compared with $245.1 million the year before.
Highbury was the site of the club's old stadium, which is now a real-estate development.
"It's a good set of results again," Ivan Gazidis, Arsenal's chief executive, said. "It doesn't reflect the activity that happened during the summer and the transfer window in particular but it does show another good year for the club."
Arsenal's player revenue will rebound next year after the North London club sold Cesc Fàbregas (Barcelona) and Samir Nasri (Manchester City) for a combined $78 million.
RARE GOAL FOR BOULAHROUZ Netherlands defender Khalid Boulahrouz scored his second goal in 102 games in the German Bundesliga to seal a 2-0 win for Stuttgart at Kaiserslautern on Friday night.
Boulahrouz scored in the 69th minute from the right of the penalty area on a shot that gave goalkeeper Kevin Trapp no chance.
"I had the feeling the goal had to come sometime," Boulahrouz said. "Today I got an assist and a goal. I'm very happy."
Cacau opened the scoring in the 52nd minute when Tamas Hajnal set up Boulahrouz to cross beyond the reach of Trapp, for Cacau's tap in.
Kaiserslautern created more chances, only to be denied by Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich on several occasions and poor finishing on others.
"Today we rode our luck a little bit," said Stuttgart Coach Bruno Labbadia, who played for Kaiserslautern from 1988 to 1991.
With five losses from eight games, Kaiserslautern could finish the weekend in the relegation zone.
