A party spokesman says: "In government Labour acted to ban smoking in the workplace, restrict tobacco advertising and campaigned to reduce smoking and any suggestion that the party has been open to undue lobbying at this or other events would be incorrect."

Game over for Osborne's company

George Osborne's handling of the economic crisis will be of particular interest to his brother Theo. A company he set up is being shut down.

An application has been made to have Parnassus Premier Sportsbook, an online bookmaker, struck off. When accepted, the firm should be dissolved in three months.

Mistress is the top cat

When John Hemming's wife was found guilty of stealing his mistress's cat, it did not seem as if the wealthy Lib Dem's private life could become any more bizarre.

Now, however, the 51-year-old MP has set up John Hemming Trading Ltd with his lover, Emily Cox, 33. Although he is registered as the sole shareholder, she is the company secretary.

It is registered at the same address as an online firm he founded which sells "cat lover gifts" and "cat owner key rings". Miaow.
