Strictly gaining in the ratings war - RTE.ie

At the time, Strictly Come Dancing had 9.5m viewers, while The X Factor had 8.3m.

The Press Association reports that The X Factor's average audience is down by almost 2m from 12m when compared to the
equivalent show in 2010. An average of 10.1m watched Saturday's live show.

Strictly Come Dancing, in the earlier slot, had an average of 9.4m viewers.

The X Factor viewership peaked at 11.5m on Saturday - down 400,000 on the previous week - while Strictly Come Dancing peaked at 11m.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "As far as we are concerned we are absolutely delighted by our figures and delighted that more people are tuning in to see our celebrity dancers each week."

An ITV spokesman said: "11.5 million viewers watched last night's show as The X Factor continued to be the most popular programme on Saturday night television."
