TWITTER was forced to apologise today after hardcore porn was promoted as an "editor's pick" on its new Vine video app.
The shocking six-second video showed a naked woman performing a graphic sex act on herself.
Twitter blamed human error and said the video had been removed.
The cover screen to the image had the words "editor's pick" in the corner and said: "Warning. This post may contain sensitive content. Tap to view."
Launched last Thursday, the Vine app allows social network users to post very short films from their mobile phones.
But over the weekend, industry commentators complained that it was becoming inundated with pornography.
Today, users reacted angrily to the appearance of the amateur porn clip on their Vine feed.
One, Taylor Winkelmeyer, wrote: "I clicked on the link because I thought the warning was a joke.
"I am furious I had to see something like this. Someone please tell me how to get it off my feed."
A spokesman said: "A human error resulted in a video with adult content becoming one of the videos in Editor's Picks, and upon realising this mistake we removed the video immediately.
"We apologise to our users for the error."
