BT risks backlash from customers over broadband price rise - The Times (subscription)

Millions of BT customers will welcome in the new year with an increase in the price of their phone and broadband packages.

The changes include a rise in the cost of the old speaking clock and, for the first time, BT will charge for its 1571 answer phone service. Those looking to leave their contract early must pay increased fees of up to 31 per cent in some cases.

Customers will receive letters next week outlining the changes. They are likely to provoke the suspicion among BT's ten million customers that they are picking up the tab for BT's investment
