Ed Miliband: Daily Mail article criticising his father Ralph sees 30 object to Press ... - Mirror.co.uk

The press watchdog has received 30 complaints about a newspaper article which labelled Labour leader Ed Miliband's father "the man who hated Britain".

The Daily Mail published a two-page essay critical of the late Ralph Miliband on Saturday.

And today, the paper revealed the exact number of complaints made to the Press Complaints Commission about its story - adding that none of them had come from Labour or the Miliband family.

Ed Miliband accused the Mail of "smearing" his father, a Jew who fled Belgium aged 16 to escape the Nazis and who died in 1994.

However the paper has refused to retract the article, insisting that the politician's father had nothing but "hatred" for Britain's values, traditions and institutions.

Appearing on BBC2's Newsnight, the paper's deputy editor Jon Steafal said it was entitled to examine critically Ralph Miliband's views and the potential influence they had on his son.

He did, however, accept that the publication of a photograph of Ralph Miliband's grave alongside the online version of the article had been an "error of judgment" and that it has been removed when the Labour leader complained.
