WASHINGTON The White House says President Barack Obama will attend a memorial service on Sunday for the victims of the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.
White House spokesman Jay Carney says Obama wants to mourn the loss of the victims in Monday's massacre and share in the nation's pain in the aftermath of another mass shooting.
Details about where and when the memorial will take place have not been announced.
At a White House event on Wednesday, first lady Michelle Obama expressed her "sincere heartbreak over Monday's tragedy."
She said, "The men and women who lost their lives devoted their careers to protecting our country."
A dozen people were killed in the shooting. The shooter, Aaron Alexis, was also killed.
