Dimitar Berbatov's five goals for Manchester United in the 7-1 mauling over Blackburn saw him join an exclusive club.

The Bulgarian striker became only the fourth player to score five in a Premier League match and the first to come to from overseas as he rockets up the list to become this season's top goalscorer.

With Sam Allardyce's side still licking their wounds, Sportsmail looks back at the three other players who have achieved the same feat.

Andy Cole - Manchester United 9-0 Ipswich 4/3/95

Having been signed mid-way into the 1994/95 season to try and help fire Manchester United towards the Premier League title, Andy Cole  had huge pressure to score goals and start scoring them quickly with regularity.

But there was no faulting his performance against a sorry Ipswich side at Old Trafford who already looked to doomed with regards to relegation before kick-off.

Cole scored twice in the first half but his hat-trick goal after half-time proved the most controversial.

Despite being credited as the scorer, his contested header with Frank Yallop appeared to suggest it was in fact the Ipswich player that headed it into his own goal.

Cole rounded off a stunning personal performance by finishing from close range for United's seventh and ninth goals.

Alan Shearer - Newcastle 8-0 Sheffield Wednesday 19/9/99

Newcastle had an awful start to the season and by the time Sir Bobby Robson prepared for his first home game, only the day's opponents Sheffield Wednesday lay below Newcastle in the league.

Under Ruud Gullit, Shearer reached the lowest point of his career, out of form, out of luck and out of the side as he was infamously replaced by Paul Robinson for the Tyne-Wear derby.

But Shearer was instantly reborn under Robson scoring a 12-minute first half hat-trick against a Wednesday side who would be relegated at the end of the season.

Shearer added two more in the second half to put further gloss on Newcastle's biggest ever home win in the Premier League.

Jermain Defoe - Tottenham 9-1 Wigan 22/11/09

Champions League-chasing Tottenham would have been expected to beat Wigan at home but nobody would have guessed the manner in which they hammered them especially after leading only 1-0 at half-time.

The in-form Jermain Defoe was chief-destroyer as he netted five second half goals that ripped apart a Wigan side whose defending was non-existent as Spurs recorded a record top flight win.

Defoe himself scored one of the Premier League's quickest hat-tricks in the process, taking just seven minutes to complete his treble by which time Spurs were 4-1 up.

He added the sixth and seventh in the 69th and 87th minutes and it would not have been outrageous to suggest the England striker should have had more.
