Halliwell murder detective faces gross misconduct charge - The Times (subscription)

A senior murder detective who broke the rules to encourage a killer to lead him to the bodies of two women should face gross misconduct proceedings, the police complaints watchdog said.

Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher should also face disciplinary action for disobeying orders by talking to reporters about the investigation into the murders of Sian O'Callaghan and Rebecca Godden.

An investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (Ipcc) found that Mr Fulcher of Wiltshire Police had breached the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (Pace) and ignored "express orders" from his own force during the inquiry into murder suspect Christopher Halliwell.
