Bolton's Stuart Holden accepts apology from Manchester United's Jonny Evans ... - Telegraph.co.uk

Holden, who has become a key figure for Owen Coyle's team since arriving MLS outfit Houston Dynamo in Jan 2010, will also miss the USA's Gold Cup campaign this June, having had his World Cup blighted last summer by his recovery from the broken leg suffered last season.

Bolton manager Coyle has backed Holden to make a full recovery from his latest injury, however. Coyle said: "First and foremost our main concern is for Stuart and his recovery. He will get all the time and support that he needs.

"Stuart has been outstanding for me this season and he has shown in his performances that he is one of the best midfielders in the Barclays Premier League.

"He has such desire, strength of character and a winning mentality, and he will draw on all those attributes in his rehabilitation."

Evans will be suspended for United's forthcoming league games against West Ham and Fulham before completing his suspension during the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City next month.

But despite recent complaints about refereeing decisions going against his team, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted referee Marriner was correct to dismiss Evans during Saturday's 1-0 victory.

"I think the referee sent him (Evans) off because the player's got a bad injury." Ferguson said. "You can't have a 100 percent complaint about the sending off, because once you raise your foot you're putting yourself in a dangerous area.

"The boy's got a bad gash, so that justifies the referee sending him off. Jonny Evans is not that type of player, but I don't think we can have a real complaint."

United's injury problems could ease ahead of the trip to West Ham on Apr 2 with midfielder Owen Hargreaves optimistic of being fit for selection having played less than six minutes of senior football due to injury since Sept 2008.
