Israel bomb attack - The Sun

A WOMAN pensioner was killed and 30 people were injured in a bomb blast in Jerusalem yesterday.

The 4lb device exploded in a suitcase near a bus stop in a Jewish district of the city.

No one claimed responsibility for the bomb, the first there in seven years.

But Israeli police blamed Palestinian militants. Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad condemned the attack.

Foreign Secretary William Hague called it a "callous and disgusting act of terrorism".

The blast came as increased violence on the Gaza border led to fears of a new war between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas.

Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday killed four Palestinians, three of them kids playing football. In Syria yesterday six people died when government forces attacked a mosque in southern city Deraa.

Protesters had earlier challenged President Bashar al-Assad's rule.

Meanwhile, British Embassy staff are being withdrawn from Yemen with "immediate effect".

A Foreign Office spokesman said just a "small core" would stay after fears of renewed violence in anti-government protests planned for today.
