The Sun says: Legacy of love - The Sun

And we did it without any politicians preaching to us about a so-called "Big Society".

Since much-loved Claire Squires died tragically in the London Marathon, Britain has responded with magnificent generosity to provide her with a lasting memorial.

Claire was running for the Samaritans and expected to raise £500.

Last night, Claire's legacy fund, backed by The Sun, was set to top an astonishing £1million. To all who have donated, from celebs to schoolchildren, we say: Thank you.

And isn't it inspiring to see that even in the toughest of times, with so many families going short, our nation has rallied together like this?

When Claire died, her dream of helping others didn't die with her.

You saw to that. And that's what a Big Society is all about.

JUSTICE catches up with rapist Alexander McGuire, jailed 26 years after getting away with a horrifying assault.

Advances in DNA testing nailed him. Cold-case investigations, where new technologies unlock past crimes, increasingly snare monsters who thought they were beyond the law.

Opinions differ on whether police should routinely take and store DNA samples.

But with proper safeguards, a DNA database has a vital role in fighting crime.

THE contempt of Brussels for Britain knows no bounds.

On top of demanding an extra billion pounds from us, the European Commission announces its own "austerity" package: a staff reduction of SIX out of 41,000 bureaucrats as hirings cancel out redundancies.

Here, thousands of civil service jobs are unfilled since the financial misery started. But Brussels' oyster bars won't be seeing a fall in trade.

More proof that the unelected EU leadership are determined to go on living like Roman emperors off the sweat of British workers.

GOOD luck to Mexican mum Karla Perez, expecting NINE babies less than a year after having triplets.

With a little boy already, she may soon have more than enough for a football team.

She'll certainly need a football pitch to park all those prams.
