Amir Khan: M6 crash turned our party joy to despair - The Sun

THESE are the two tragic lads who died in a Christmas Day smash on their way to the wedding of boxer Amir Khan's cousin.

Little Arsalaan Habib, four, brother Adnan, ten, - described by their family as their "precious jewels" - and their aunt Bushra Tazarib, 32, were killed in a car crash on the M6.

The boys' mum Parveen, 38, who was driving, and their 17-year-old sister Misbah survived.

Amir last night told of his "despair" after discovering that the two boys were on their way to his cousin's wedding.

Pictures were released by the police today of the boys and their aunt as their family paid an emotional tribute.

Their statement read: "Christmas Day began with all the joy all over the UK.

"We, as the rest of the nation, had the build-up to the Christmas holidays, attending school plays and preparing for a family wedding.

"The joy turned into tragedy in a split second, when we lost our boys moments apart and our beloved auntie.

"Adnan and Arsalaan were our family's precious jewels, spreading joy wherever they went.

"They were happy and joyous boys who were a central part of the family, always smiling and bringing smiles to everyone they met.

"Bushra had been part of the family by marriage for almost 14 years, and was a vital person.

"Always helping and supporting every member at all times, regardless of difficulty and joy.

"Bushra was so loving of all children, even though she was not blessed of any of her own.

"We thank everyone for their kind words of support, and we would like everyone to remember them in your prayers."

All five were on their way to Bolton — where the boxer lives — when the accident happened. The bride Rabia Khan is ex-world champ Amir's second cousin and he was at the ceremony when the news came through.

Last night he said: "My heart goes out to the families of those involved in this terrible accident. No one could believe it. One minute everyone at the wedding was joyous — the next it had turned into despair.

"To hear that two young children and their aunt had been killed on their way to the wedding was utterly heartbreaking. We were all numb, no one knew what to say.

"Some people actually left the wedding service to pay their respects — and others were in tears.

"It was one of the most harrowing things I've ever experienced. I am just so, so sorry."

Amir, 26, did not know the crash victims — they were from the groom's side of the family and had travelled from their homes in High Wycombe, Bucks.

They were part of an eight-car convoy heading up the M6 when Parveen's red Ford Focus careered off the motorway, up an embankment and slammed into a tree near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs. Police have issued a fresh appeal for information.
